Need Hope Today?

Has life handed you a raw deal? Has your self worth been beat down from the day you were born? Perhaps you bought into the illusions of fashion magazines and celebrity tabloids promising happiness if you just look like that or wear this brand of heels or carry that style of purse. Maybe you’ve spent your life trying to measure up to someone else’s expectations of you, always falling short then allowing their opinion of you to demolish your self-worth. Or do you feel like something is just missing in your life, as though there is some hole inside you that needs to be filled and you’ve been unable to fill that void?

            First and foremost I want you to know that you matter! You are one of a kind. No other human being is exactly like you. No one has your same finger prints. You are truly unique and have something to offer the world (and that includes men). And until you get that and start falling in love with yourself and what you have to offer, you will not attract healthy relationships into your life!

            After all you’ve been through and after all the pain you’ve suffered, isn’t it time you discover the good life? If you just hesitated, let me answer for you—yes! Absolutely yes!

            You will never become what you’re not willing to pursue. It takes conscious effort. It goes back to attitude and courage girl—I need you to adjust your mental position to the knowledge that you have but one life to live and dog-gone-it starting this very moment you are going to live it to the fullest. No man, past hurts, present challenges, or potential rejection is going to stop you now.

            A huge step toward discovering your dynamic, magnetic self lies in looking back at the road that got you here. You can’t get where you want to go until you know where you’ve been and where you are going! So I offer you a guide for exploring your life thus far, as you pursue the life you always dreamed of.

            I’m one of those who believes in a literal, personal, living God who created the universe. And not only did he create this vast universe and everything in it, he also created you and me. You are no accident, regardless of the love or lack thereof, of your parents.

            One of the most cherished Scriptures for me is found in Psalms, right smack in the middle of the Bible. As you read this excerpt of Psalm 139, words written by King David several thousand years ago, I want you to know that they are true about you, personally, today!

O LORD, you have searched me
       and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;
       you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;

you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue
       you know it completely, O LORD….

Where can I go from your Spirit?
       Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
       if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
       if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,
       your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
       and the light become night around me,"

even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
  for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being;
       you knit me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully

and wonderfully made…
       My frame was not hidden from you
       when I was made in the secret place…
 your eyes saw my unformed body.
   All the days ordained for me
   were written in your book
       before one of them came to be.

An excerpt of Psalm 139 (NIV translation of the Bible)

            Let’s face it, at times—for some often—life is just hard! There is just no other way to say it. But let me tell you this, just as very bad things do happen to good people, there is a God who sees and cares and who has a personal plan for your life and he wants you to know him personally. I’m not talking about religion; I’m talking about a relationship.

            A few melodramas of my life include devastating heartbreaks, financial crisis’s, a severe burn, recurring medical scares, malicious verbal attacks, being stalked by a rapist, the loss of dreams, loss of friendships, and more. A verse that has gotten me through difficult times such as these is:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,

with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,

 will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)

During my single years, even after I mastered the skills of getting most any man I wanted to call me back for that next date, to be frank, at times it left me feeling shallow and unfulfilled because even though there was a quantity of men in my life, I lacked a quality of character in the men I was dating. Though I’d spent time with a Grammy winning rock star, an Academy award-winning actor, a top music promoter, and a pro-golfer, even a doctor… it was empty. By the end of my twenties, no one in my life met my list for “Mr. Right.” You see I had made a special promise at a very young age.

            It was a Sunday evening. I was seven years old and the pastor of my church where I grew up made a profound statement. He said, “There comes a time in the life of every person when you have to stop just following the religion of your parents and make a decision for yourself. What are you going to do about Jesus? You have a choice. You can either accept him or reject him, but you will decide.”

            At that very moment, even at my young age, I knew it was my time to make the choice to believe Jesus was real and invite him into my life. I said a simple prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I need you. I’ve messed up in and done things that Mommy and Daddy don’t know about and I want you to forgive me. I want you to be my God, not just the God of my parents. I believe you died on that cross for me and came back to life three days later and still live today. Please come take over my life and help me be who you want me to be. In Jesus Name, Amen.”

That prayer was so simple and yet it changed my life forever. And Jesus has been my closest friend ever since.  A severe burn, health scares, singleness, a stalker, and more…throughout each tragedy, God gave me peace that passes all understanding. Jesus is my true security in an insecure, scary world. Though others have, he never left me.

            In my twenties, in the midst of various devastating heartbreaks, I would never have dared dream I’d get to experience the life I’m living now. I’ve been blessed with an amazing husband and two wonderful children. But most of all, I’ve been pleased with inner peace that is constant despite whatever trials come my way. And no matter where you are in life right now, we all fall into one of three categories—1) we are in facing some challenges and hardships 2) we just came out of some difficulties and hardships or 3) we’re about to run into some major challenges and hardships. That is the human condition; life happens. But there is a God who sees you and knows everything you are going to face, before it happens. He is strong enough to carry you through.

            I don’t know what storm you may be in the middle of right now but I can guarantee you one thing: Though we don’t know the future, God does!  An ancient proverb tells us that we can keep making our plans but none of us, other than God, knows how they will turn out. .

            The Jewish prophet Jeremiah proclaimed that God has a plan for each of us, plans for good and not for evil, plans for a future and a hope. We just have to be willing and courageous to keep moving forward, no matter what happens. No matter how weak you are, God is strong and able to carry you through, but he won’t force himself on you—you have to invite him in to get involved. So ask him—right now, just say “Hey God, are you there? I need you. Please come in and help me.”

            Just as sure as I am that there is a God in heaven ultimately in control of this world, this same God did not create us as robots with no will of our own nor will he force anyone to believe in him. God allows us to make our own decisions about all areas of our lives. But we also experience the consequences of our choices as well as experience the consequences of the actions of those around us.  Just by reflecting on history or observing our society today reveals that there is indeed evil in this world, along with a literal devil and his invisible legion of demons trying to destroy us, just as the Bible proclaims.

            “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but [Jesus] comes that we might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).” St. John tells us in the New Testament. Isn’t it time you move from letting evil win over your life and turn your life over to the One who wants you to live a fulfilling and abundant life right here and now?

That is how I have lived my life. A hectic career is not easy. Bad things do happen to good people. But I’ve learned many valuable lessons in my life. I learned Jesus loves me even when I’m ugly and no one seems to care. I learned that Jesus loves me when I fail Him and let Him down. Most important of all, I learned that even when I’m rejected by this date or that date or this friend or that family member, Jesus is faithful. Jesus said “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)” My entire life has been about perseverance and God’s faithfulness to me.

            We all face hardships in life. The difference is that some of us have had the privilege of having a personal encounter with God. Not only have I discovered this, many of my family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances who have been through far worse than me have discovered this secret. You can read some of their true stories in my book The Day I Met God (available at my e-store). Like me, these people have found purpose, strength and peace in the midst of devastating circumstances. I want that for you too.

You too can experience a life of true inner peace and happiness, despite your present or past circumstances. It’s available just for the asking. There’s an announcement in Revelations, the very last book of the Bible where Jesus says “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in!” (Revelations 3:20). Won’t you do that right now? Invite him in by repeating a prayer like the prayer I prayed as a young girl.

“Dear Jesus, I need you. I’ve messed up in and done things that no one else knows about, but you do. Please forgive me. I want you to be my God, not just the God of my parents. I believe you died on that cross for me and came back to life three days later and still live today. Please come take over my life and help me be who you want me to be. In Jesus Name, Amen.”

            There is a plan for YOUR life—a good plan and a special purpose. So hang in there, if you’ve invited God into your life right now you’ve just embarked on a journey of a lifetime—a life of purpose and ongoing peace that passes understanding. Congratulations. Your life will never be the same! You have a new identity to reveal your valuable self-worth. Continue pursuing your relationship with God by talking to him daily (that’s what I call prayer) and reading his life manual, the Bible a little bit everyday (begin with the New Testament which is 3/4 the way through the book and then read the Old Testament when you finish it). I also encourage you to visit a church near you so you can begin to grow in your faith. In addition to the Bible, I’ve included some great books to read to further your journey that are all available on my website at my Amazon store.

            I truly believe you did not read this webpage by accident. I pray that you come to a personal relationship with the God who created you as you continue your journey to the person you were meant to be.

            Warmest regards,

Victorya Michaels Rogers
